HITRECORD started a film project called "Patch of Sky." The objective was to make short films about the views we see every day while in isolation and how they keep us connected to the rest of the world.
Fort Hamilton High School was asked to do the same with what they see most during quarantine. Here are our patches of sky.

I like the blue sky
I ask it what my dreams are
And wait for response
It cannot answer
But it blows a gust of wind
Is that a reply?

Marshmallow clouds left.
Blue then grey. Time stop spinning.
Empty streets--now peace.

The clouds are
A white cat crawling through a field of blue
The sun is red
A fireball rose
The moon bends
A small boat crossed the sea of stars
Maybe
There are still miracles in the sky.

As I pray during the lovely spring of Ramadan I close my eyes and put my head up to the sky. The beautiful light shines over my closed eyes and I can’t help but to think of heaven. Wind blows lightly in my praying scarf and my hair underneath with it. Birds chirp in the background of me reciting my prayer as if music to my song, and my mind clears from all the trouble going on in this unpredictable world. My small patch of sky covered by a row of rather short New York buildings helps me find peace during this time of isolation. It helps me feel free and calm during my daily prayer. My small patch of sky makes my little apartment feel larger and gives me hope that we all desperately need. My small patch of sky brings out my greatest companion, the moon, as it lights up the night and also lights up my mind.

Clouds begin to cry
It takes my mind off these times
When can I return

We all live under the same sky
Look at the same stars
Find comfort in the same moon
Yet not one of us is the same
Miles on miles of sky
Each little patch of sky within someone’s eye
Not one star left unseen
Can’t say the same about people
Some unseen, some unheard
Some going numb
Void of feeling
Just tired of the new norm
The stars are in each other’s presence
But people miss their friends
Oh how they envy the stars
Stars in each other’s presence
That’s all the people want anymore
The stars and moon glow in the sky
But slowly people are losing the glow in their eye
Tired of the new normal
Wishing on a star for a new day
A brand new beginning
A change
A fresh start at 00:00

Such a waste of a
good day. The sky fills me with
depression again.

Locked Up
The pandemic has decreased pollution and all our blunder
I breathe in the pleasant air Earth has to offer
The sky is blue and the birds sing a song
Families are together because of “the pandemic that did us wrong”
I long for an adventure outside of my home
I am stuck in house where I feel I no longer belong
Just like the birds I want to be set free
But I am tied down by the pandemic and its casualties
Siblings come back home for shelter
Their bonds become stronger than ever
Parents get to see their kids more often
Kids don’t feel like they have been forgotten
The pandemic has placed fear in all our minds
Coughing will soon become a crime when this unwinds
Social distancing is now required on a daily basis
Hugs from others will make someone feel anxious
